People, People, People!
In everything we do, we know it’s all about people. Daily we are reminded that it’s people we serve. It may be those who are seeking ways to give their time, talent or treasure in the most impactful of ways in the community, or those in the nonprofit organizations who are taking care of our neighbors’ needs or seizing opportunities to make our community better for all of us.
In this issue, you will see how we are connecting with people in our community. Check out the information about On the Table, a Collaboratory intiative bringing neighbors together to talk about their community this October 17.
Nonprofits, don’t miss connecting at our monthly Caffeinated Conversations as well as the closing of our annual Community Impact Grants call. For those organizations serving the legal rights of immigrants, we have a robust learning community that is also introduced here for you.

Caffeinated Conversations Held Monthly for Nonprofits
We saved a cup for you!
Our nonprofit partners from throughout Southwest Florida are invited to join us for Caffeinated Conversations with the staff of the Southwest Florida Community Foundation.
This monthly gathering gives us the time to get to know one another and to learn what is happening in the nonprofit organizations.
Reservations are required.
Meet One of Our In-house Co-Collaborators: Captains for Clean Water
Captains For Clean Water began as a group of local fishing guides that grew increasingly concerned with the state’s water management practices. They banded together to advance education, public awareness and scientifically supported solutions that inform policymakers in order to restore and protect marine ecosystems and water-quality for future generations.
We look forward to them moving into Collaboratory in September.

Grants Call for Nonprofit Applications Closing
July 31st Deadline
IMPORTANT! The 2019-2020 Community Impact Grants call ends July 31st. Nonprofits are urged to apply and bring their ideas, projects, and programs–both established and new—that are designed to increase the quality of life in sustainable and equitable ways for Southwest Floridians.
Based on the available Field of Interest funds, Community Impact Grants provide funding in the following areas: Animals, Environment, Health & Safety, Education, Arts & Community Culture, and Equity & Empowerment.
Immigration Learning Community Meets Monthly
Immigration learning community meetings provide a special space for organizations to share good practices, challenges, opportunities, stories, collective impact, and resources. Attendees are organizations ranging from health care to human services, attorneys, consultants, local law school, churches, and private citizens concerned with immigrants and refugees in SWFL. The next meeting is August 27 at Collaboratory.
Katie Leone Joins Team as Sustainability Manager
The Southwest Florida Community Foundation recently welcomed Katie Leone as Impact and Sustainability Manager.
In her new position, Katie works on the Social Innovation & Sustainability (SIS) Team where she will support the development, execution, measurement and reporting of sustainability initiatives including the FutureMakers Coalition.
Her work will center on making complex issues understandable and actionable to assist the foundation and regional partners in improving the quality of life in our region.
Prior to joining the Foundation’s staff, Katie was the Sustainability Manager at Florida Gulf Coast University where she worked across institutional units to bridge educational and operational sustainability goals.

These charitable giving accounts can be created by individuals, families and organizations and offer immediate tax benefit. Author and TED speaker Dan Pallotta to lead Board Training Seminar in November

The Southwest Florida Community Foundation will bring back nationally renowned author and TED talk speaker Dan Pallotta to town on Saturday, November 2 for a one-day Board training seminar for nonprofit leaders and their board members.
Designed specifically for nonprofit boards, The Bolder Board Training℠ teaches how to work with CEOs to create possibilities for impact.
“This training was so successful last fall and sold out so we wanted to bring Dan back for those that either missed his first visit or previous attendees that want to learn more,” said Sarah Owen, president and CEO of the Southwest Florida Community Foundation. “This is not a traditional training on governance and finance but a one-day event that is an immersion in possibility and aspiration that positively disrupts traditional ways of thinking. It is part lecture, part workshop.”
The Bolder Board Training℠ will be held at the Community Foundation’s Collaboratory located at 2031 Jackson Street in downtown Fort Myers. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Reservations are now being accepted by visiting https://floridacommunity.com/bolder-board-training/. The cost is $150 per person and tables for four or eight are available for nonprofits. Seating is limited and the event is expected to sell out.
