Let’s make that a lot of stories…..we have several a day at the Foundation that I know would interest you! From the stories of our grantees using donor funding to create change in their neighborhoods and communities to topics we explore daily on equity struggles, issues about our environment, safety concerns of our citizens, the health of our animals and so much more.

Check Out How Regional Nonprofits are Using Our Grant Money to Create Change in SWFL

The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) About Success program is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. The program places special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills through the use of organizational strategies, tutoring, mentoring, and college/post-secondary education preparation. AVID is a comprehensive system for instructing teachers at all grade levels how to inspire their students to be leaders and achievers, as well as collaborate with others.

This year 20 organizations were awarded nearly $550,000 to execute their very specific plans to solve a problem in our community or cultivate positive change for the region to benefit our neighbors.

If you are a member of a nonprofit board in Southwest Florida, be sure that you and your fellow board members get your tickets to spend the day with renown Speaker, Author and Entrepreneur Dan Pallotta as he brings his acclaimed training for nonprofit boards to our area. Board members will be seated together.

One of TED Talks’ most viewed presenters on “The Way You Look at Charities is Dead Wrong,” Pallotta will be in the Collaboratory on Saturday, November 3 for a daylong seminar specifically for nonprofit board members and their organization’s leader. Nonprofits: Check Out These Capacity Building Resources

The 2018 nonprofit capacity survey is now open!

Each year, the Southwest Florida Community Foundation distributes a capacity survey to nonprofit organizations, their leadership and staff, across Southwest Florida. The survey is a self-assessment instrument that helps nonprofits identify capacity strengths and challenges and establish capacity-building goals. Individual reports are built and shared with each organization that takes the assessment to use as a diagnostic and learning tool that provides a useful framework for measuring growth in capacity over time.

The Foundation team has posted a vast offering of resources on our website for nonprofits to review to help increase capacity in their organizations.

Our hope is that nonprofits take the capacity assessment each year to use the results and changes as a catalyst for the organization’s key stakeholders to discuss the capacity of the organization.To take the survey click here.

Nonprofit Capacity Building Resources
Considering the regional areas for capacity growth and organizational scores, nonprofit leaders may want to develop their own internal capacity building strategy. Based on the Nonprofit Capacity Survey results, leaders will find some resources and tools that can help build organizational capacity in each of the capacity areas.

Women’s Legacy Fund’s Prima Donors Explore Climate Change

The CLEO Institute’s Co-Executive Director & Sr. Climate Change Advisor Yoca Arditi-Rocha spent the evening with the Foundation’s Prima Donors discussing climate change and its effect on women and girls.

Prima Donors are part of the Women’s Legacy Fund who give a one-time gift to the WLF endowment fund. They gather twice a year to explore topics through presentations and after-dinner conversation. If you want more information on the Women’s Legacy Fund and/or becoming a Prima Donor, click here.
